Broward County Ron Cochran Public Safety Building: Chillers Replacement
HMAC Project
Client: Broward County
Type of Building: Commercial, Secure Facility
Location: 2601 W Broward Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, FL
Scope of Work
Replacement of (3) 325-ton chillers with new 325-ton York Magnetic Bearing Liquid Cooled Chillers, along with their accompanying (8) chilled water and condenser pumps outfitted with new VFDs and BMS systems. Also included a new refrigerant monitoring system with inline exhaust fan and sensors.
Project Highlights and Results
This facility is home to the Broward County Sheriff's Department and Fire Department Administration. Coordinating the removal and install of each chiller independently, while maintaining the fall-back protocol, was crucial. Each chiller, and its linked pumps and controls, had to be replaced and fully operational inside a two-week window, leaving no room for error. We also replaced all connecting chilled water piping, valves, and insulation. The project was completed ahead of schedule with no impact to the tenants or their operations. Gordian, the contract administrator for Broward County, submitted HMAC and this project for a Project Award for 2025.
