Broward County Office of Medical Examiner and Trauma Services: RTUs and AHU/CU Replacements

HMAC Project

Client: Broward County

Type of Building: Commercial, Medical Facility

Location: 5301 SW 31st Ave, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33312

Scope of Work

Replacement of (3) basic Trane rooftop package units with new Trane Custom Roof Top Units featuring Hot Gas Reheat and Morganizer Controls, plus new make-up air dampers and replacement of the existing AHU/CU on the south building.

Project Highlights and Results

The Office of the Medical Examiner houses Broward County's Medical Examiner offices and training center. The existing rooftop units were basic Trane packaged equipment that did not provide the pressurization and humidity control the facility actually needed. A medical examiner's facility has very specific requirements for pressurization, humidity, and clean operating environments, and the work had to be performed outside normal operating hours to eliminate impact on the community and on the medical teams. We replaced three basic Trane rooftop package units with Trane Custom Rooftop Units featuring Hot Gas Reheat and Morganizer Controls, plus new make-up air dampers to ensure proper pressurization and humidity control. We also replaced the existing AHU/CU on the south building with similar custom equipment to improve the climate. The project was completed on-time with minimal impact to operations. The facility now has the climate control, pressurization, and humidity management it needed for medical-examiner-grade operations.
